Would you believe the answer to that is... "dramatic effect?"
[He has an idea why he didn't check it beforehand. But. It was pretty stupid to do it that way, yeah, even he can admit that.]
Honestly, though, I think as much as it pissed people off, it probably did switch a few votes away from me. Silver linings, considering I'm almost certainly dead once I get that chip back in my head.
[Spike, do not joke(?) about this. He pulls out a selection of different colours of nail polish and gestures to a couple of chairs on the balcony.]
Oh, you can't control killing instinct without a chip?
[ . . . Actually that makes her pause for a hot second. Jesus. Imagine a chip like that in the hands of those who have power in her world and what they could do to devils and fiends with that, huh? Well, except they already have something kind of similar. Hey Spike want a last-second memshare. ]
I hope they'll send messages anyway. Would suck if the only one we ever got was from Ghost King.
I can. It's just a lot harder. Like trying to keep a diet while surrounded by a constant buffet with no morals.
[Honestly, fair. He doesn't know how they work but he does have the memory of being lobotomized. You just like... need to capture them and put it in their brain surgically. At that point you might as well just kill them.]
At least you didn't see his tiny dick. Anyway, what colour we thinking? Dark, bright? Red? Purple? Yellow? Blue?
[ She's herself, so, like. She thinks Spike having had to see Qi Rong's tiny dick is very funny. She's eager though, when she's asked for the colour -- but really, did he even need to ask? ]
Red!
[ Instant. Except whoopsie there's a got damn memshard somewhere around here ohhh noooo here comes the light. Fastballs a mem at him.
A red-haired woman sits in front of her and a blond boy, looking thoughtful with a furrowed brow. There's a strange aura about her, not that she's scary or seemingly evil, just that within Power's memory, she's... inherently unsettling.
'...You get so excited by blood, maybe a bit too much. If you're going to be so impulsive, maybe you aren't cut out to be a Devil Hunter?' she ponders. Her voice is soft, and yet, Power knows there is a very distinct threat behind those words. If this woman so chooses, then Power would be labeled a rogue devil, and she would be hunted down -- possibly eliminated by this task force.
'No way!!!' she yips back in a mild panic. It seems they were in the aftermath of some devil hunting business that went a little messier than intended, and Power immediately begins trying to shift the blame onto the boy next to him. He told me to do it, she says -- and when Denji yells and argues back about how Power is a liar, they devolve into a loud and noisy mess of back and forth screaming. The woman watches on for a little while longer, and speaks again. Her voice, though simple, feels absolutely suffocating in a way that permeates Power's entire being. Dominion. Control. This woman has authority.
'Can you be quiet?' she asks, and Power feels a chill. She shuts up immediately and averts her gaze. Beside her, the boy is glancing with a clear 'what the fuck?' kind of look on his face.
'Y-yes.'
'Excellent. Honestly, I don't care who started what. I just want to see the two of you get results.' Her golden spiral eyes gleam and she looks at the two in front of her expectantly. 'Do you think you can show me that?'
'I will! I-I shall show you.' Power is still standing nervous and straight, her body rigid, a noted sense of... fear? Respect? Ah, no. Maybe something more like submission in this woman's presence.
And with that, the memory ends there. Sure, it's hard to tell exactly what is wrong there, but it seems pretty clear that something is wrong. Where she sits before Spike, she seems to have frozen up a little bit. She defrosts fast enough, but she seems a bit awkward. ]
[He blinks back, the memory fading from his mind as he comes to his senses. He was halfway to unscrewing the lid of the red nail polish, mentally figuring what shade would go best with Power's palette.
He looks... disturbed, and frowns. So, that was some mind control, yeah? It's not something he's... intimately familiar with, but Drusilla inflicted it on people enough that the idea isn't new to him. He supposes he'd never know if she inflicted it on him too.
Still, with a frown, he unscrews the lid and pulls out the brush.] You wanna talk about that or pretend it didn't happen?
[ She awkwardly shifts a little bit, a noted frown on her face.
Makima... ]
'Tis fine, it shouldn't matter anyway. She is not here.
[ That's her saving grace -- and for the good of the rest of this group too, probably, for better or worse since Makima is really the only person who can control this unruly devil. ]
I don't have to listen to her, and I can do what I want.
[He nods.] I sort of understand that, I suppose. [The fact that the Slayer could kill him at any time never stopped him from being an uppity prick, but he does recall swallowing his pride when allying with Angelus and Adam.
Pricks.]
Denji's your blonde friend, yeah? What's the story there?
[Continues painting your nails.] That shade all good? I can mix and match if you want.
Denji is my human buddy. He got picked up off the streets by Makima I think, and we were assigned buddies. [ Partners, but the word buddy was used. ] I almost killed him when we first met, but he helped me anyway. And then we both moved into Aki's house, so we'd been living together since.
[He continues painting her nails then. He's actually pretty good at it.]
I almost killed most of my friends when I first met them. I think that's just the way it is with creatures like us. Though, on my end, I ended up helping them. And then after that, they did me a favour, and so on and so forth.
[ Her pretty nails are happening. She's going to have to be monitored to make sure she doesn't smudged the shit out of them while waiting for them to dry. ]
I tried to offer him up to the Bat Devil -- he was holding my cat hostage. He was a jerk, though, and didn't give me my cat back. Denji helped me get Meowy back anyway and killed Bat!
[ So that's the origin story. ]
Aki is the other human I lived with. He was in the Public Safety Commission for longer... and we were sent to live with him.

[ Which is all very true. And sure, Suigetsu getting voted does suck to some degree, but it was like voting out the one she likes way less. ]
That can be addressed next week! Since you can only catch one every week anyway.
no subject
Well, I think we can get more than one, but yeah. Just don't think it's a great idea to turn it into a proper witch hunt.
[He smiles.]
Let me guess, you're gonna want me to do your nails tonight?
no subject
[ Be nice to him. Autocorrect wanted that to be' Jim'. ]
Seriously, why'd you suddenly do that out of nowhere?
no subject
[He has an idea why he didn't check it beforehand. But. It was pretty stupid to do it that way, yeah, even he can admit that.]

[ Spike your drama. ]
Why do you want something like that back? [ If she's understanding what's up with it correctly...
She's also going to plop herself down on one of these chairs. Thar she goes. ]
Why're you gonna be dead? You could try living.
no subject
[He points at Erastis.] And maybe he'll be good enough eventually, but... I don't got a lot of options.
I get the feeling death's still something we can escape, else they wouldn't be sending us messages, right? Gotta keep that hope.
But I'd probably die because then all the humans would know I can't defend myself. So. [Sigh.]

[ So there! Apparently, that's her conclusion. ]
no subject
[His tone's patient, but he's already decided to rip Makima's fucking head off.] What is she? Devil, witch, human?
Seems like she's got a tight hold on you. Felt like mind control, honestly.
no subject
[ She just holds her hand out, muttering under her breath. It sounds something like, Control Devil. ]
I'm stronger than that, she doesn't mind control me.
[ It's just. It's still enough to cow her, and enough to let her know that disobeying her is bad business. ]
no subject
She's just got the authority to make your life a living hell then, is that it?
[He's not sure he believes that.]
She an enemy you're interested in doing away with?
no subject
[ It's just a little Strange and Complicated. But she huffs a little, straightening. ]
If Denji does things right, she should be done away with!
